Bulletins from Barbara
- Finally March 04, 2010 Late Tuesday evening, Senator Jim Bunning finally relented. He allowed us to move forward and extend unemployment checks to the long-term unemployed and fund the Highway Trust Fund -- but not until 2,000 Department of Transportation workers were furloughed and road projects, including several in California, were shut down.
- Can you believe this? February 28, 2010 Late Thursday night, just as the Senate was poised to extend unemployment benefits to those Americans who are struggling to find work, gridlock returned with a vengeance.
- You could meet Al Gore February 08, 2010 This Saturday, February 13, Vice President Al Gore is coming to Los Angeles to pitch in and support my campaign! So today we're kicking off an online contest to select one lucky winner and a guest to join Al and me at a special lunch event in Los Angeles. Our campaign will even cover your airfare and hotel accommodations, too.
- Haiti January 16, 2010 As a senator from a state that has too often experienced the devastation of earthquakes, I want to express my deepest condolences to the people of Haiti who have suffered such extraordinary loss and destruction. The images of collapsed schools, hospitals, government buildings, and homes from Tuesday's earthquake are both stunning and heartbreaking.
- Beyond my every expectation January 12, 2010 We begin the new year in such a challenging political climate. Americans are understandably anxious about issues here at home and abroad, and the sweeping change needed to address those issues is never easy. On the one hand, change can't come fast enough -- but on the other hand, there are so many special interests resorting to scare tactics and misinformation to try to block change and maintain the status quo. That is why I am so very, very grateful to you and my entire online community. You have put your trust in me, and you never let me down.
- Happy Thanksgiving November 25, 2009 Tomorrow, America celebrates Thanksgiving -- a special day where we pause to give thanks for the many blessings we've received.
- Fighting for Women's Health November 17, 2009 Ten days ago, the House passed the Stupak Amendment, which would be one of the biggest setbacks to women's health in recent decades -- unless we stand together and stop it.
- Time to Get Serious October 28, 2009 It's time for America to get serious about tackling the climate change crisis. That's why, late last month, Senator Kerry and I introduced the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act -- critical legislation that will put our country on the path to a clean energy future.
- Senator Ted Kennedy August 26, 2009 I will always think of Senator Kennedy as the lion of the Senate. From his seat in the back of the beautiful Senate chamber, he used his powerful voice to speak out for the voiceless. He could always be counted on to champion justice, fairness and compassion -- and to challenge all of us to do the same.
- Congratulate Justice Sotomayor! August 06, 2009 Today, by a 68 -- 31 vote, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly voted to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor as the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court! I couldn't be more thrilled that this talented and experienced judge will be joining the highest court in the land. She will be an amazing asset to our country on the Supreme Court.
