Choose A Challenger

After watching the Republican Leadership filibuster our global warming bill earlier this month, not to mention the record 76 filibusters they've mounted on other good legislation this session, it's clear -- more than ever -- that we need more Democrats in the Senate to get America back on track.

So today, we're kicking off our 2008 "Choose a Challenger" contest -- an opportunity for you to help decide which Democratic Senate challenger our PAC for a Change online community will support next.  The winner of our online contest will be featured in a fundraising email to our entire online community, potentially adding tens of thousands of dollars to his or her campaign war chest this fall -- going a long way towards helping us build a stronger progressive Senate majority in 2009 and beyond.

In 2006, our PAC for a Change online community raised over a million dollars to help Democrats win a narrow majority in the Senate. Since then, we have come far in beginning the fight against global warming, providing relief to hurricane-struck communities on the Gulf Coast, and confronting the Bush Administration's failed policies at home and abroad.

But as we saw again earlier this month, we need a 60-vote majority in the Senate to overcome the right-wing filibusters that have prevented us from doing so much more, like ending the war in Iraq, reducing gas prices, and passing a strong global warming bill.  We must expand our narrow Democratic majority this November!

So let's take the next step, today, towards building the working progressive majority we need in the Senate to get America back on track in 2009 and beyond.

Just imagine what a 60-seat majority would mean not just for us, but for our children's generation: We could take stronger action on global warming, see our troops return from Iraq, provide relief to homeowners facing foreclosure, and restore our civil liberties.

Let's make sure Democratic Senate challengers all across America have all the resources they need to win this year.

Now that the presidential primary is complete, it's time to work on building a progressive majority in the Senate that will stand with President Obama in the months and years to come.
