Jobs
09/10/2011
Thursday night, President Obama spoke powerfully and passionately before a joint session of Congress to propose the American Jobs Act, a robust and commonsense jobs package that would help get millions of Americans back to work.
The President's jobs plan is exactly the kind of thing we need to reinvigorate our economy right now -- particularly his call to rebuild roads, bridges, and schools, and to help homeowners refinance their mortgages. These are all issues that I've been working to address in the Senate, and I firmly support President Obama's call to ensure that millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share.
At the end of his speech, President Obama called on all Americans to speak out in support of this bold proposal and make their voices heard.
I'm standing up and supporting the President's jobs plan. Will you?

President Obama's plan is targeted, balanced, and robust. It will get Americans back to work and modernize our infrastructure, provide tax relief to middle class families and small businesses that hire new workers, and help unemployed Americans support their families while they look for work.
The American Jobs Act also includes many job creation provisions that Republicans have previously advocated themselves, like offering companies tax incentives for hiring unemployed workers, and it will not add a dime to the federal deficit.
There's no excuse for Republicans to oppose this commonsense package if they put their country ahead of their party.

Until now, Congressional Republicans have tried to stop us from addressing the jobs crisis at every turn, advancing their extreme political agenda and looking out for the big corporate interests rather than putting middle class families first.
We saw it when they brought our country to the brink of default before raising the debt ceiling, throwing our economy into further turmoil. We saw it when they obstructed passage of the FAA bill, putting tens of thousands of people temporarily out of work. We saw it by their obstruction and objection to every jobs bill we tried to pass through the U.S. Senate.
The only economic plan the Republicans have is to continue giving away huge tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans who don't need them. That's certainly made their big corporate donors happy, but it sure hasn't solved the jobs crisis.
It's time for a real jobs plan -- one that will put Americans back to work. So let's make sure the Republicans get the message from President Obama's speech Thursday night, and show them that the American people are demanding action.
