Boxer authored important provisions of Port Security bill.

In 2002, Senator Boxer was a member of the conference committee that negotiated the final bill that passed and was signed into law to improve security at the nation’s ports. In particular, Senator Boxer fought for measures to provide grants to help local ports make security improvements, such as the installation of fences and video cameras; to require background checks and ID cards; and to require each port to establish a comprehensive port security plan.
